DEATH BY DROWNING. A formal verdict of deatlvhy drowning was returned at the inquest on Phillip Hex Dodwell, an ex-bank clerk, single, aged thirty-six, who took an epilectic seizure while surf bathing on the Napier .beach-on Saturday afternoon. lie was floating face downwards for sime time before he was Artificial respiration was applied, but without success.—Press Association telegram. CHILD DROWNED. Zita Isohel Hiddleston, aged 2} years, was found drowned yesterday afternoon at 1.30 in 3ft of water in the Shag River at Dunback. Dr Thomas, of Palmerston, who was summoned, could only pronounce life to bo extinct. The little girl was last seen by her father playing near the. house at 9.30, and it is thought that she fell into the river, which was close at hand. An inquest was opened to-day. MOTOR MISHAPS. An Association message from Marton states that a collision occurred yesterday between cars driven by W, Voelkerling and J. Jellyman, as a result of which Mrs Yoelkerling was thrown on the road and seriously injured, and the two children were badly cut about the face with flying glass. • All are in hospital. Mrs jellyman was also cut slightly. The drivers escaped with a shaking. An Association message from Hastings states that Archie Harris, of Waipukurau (a contractor), who, with his -wife, had a car _ overturned in a motor smash at Pakipaki on Wednesday last, died as the result of his injuries in the hospital yesterday, Mrs Harris’s condition is slightly improved.
