THE ANNUAL REPORT

The third annual report of the Justices’ Association of Otaao states that the roll totals 134, Tho committee regrets to have to record tho death of“onr patron, His Honour Sir William Sim, which took place at Wellington. The association was represented at the funeral hy the president and secretary and several of tlio members. Messrs 11. Hay, P. Johnson, and H. M‘Donald also died during the year, and a letter of condolence was sent to tho relatives of the deceased expressing sympathy in their bereavement.

Mr J. J. Marlow Mas again the Otago Association’s delegate to tlio annual conference, which was held this year at New Plymouth. There arc now eleven associations affiliated to the Dominion Association of Justices, and the council '"ongratulates Timoru, Gisborne, and Invercargill on. linking up ..with the association. On May O’, 1929, Mr Marlow gave a very full account of the conference, and his impressions. Mr Marlow congratulated the New Plymouth Association for the splendid arrangements made for the meeting, also for the social side of the meeting. During the year the association was favoured with two addresses by Professor Lawson on ‘Civic 'Responsibility,’ and Dr Fisher on ‘ The League of Nations.’ The attendances at these meetings wore not as largo as might reasonably have been expected. /The thanks of the association wore, extended to those two gentlemen. On Saturday afternoon, September 29, 1928, at the invitation of Dr Gribben, xhe council paid a visit of inspection to the Mental Hosuital, Seacliff. The doctor gave members a very warm reception, and then Mr F. G. Gumming piloted them throng!) the several buildings. Afternoon tea was provided-, and then tho doctor addressed the members on various aspects of the, work carried out at the hospital. Mr Moller ■sincerely thanked 'Dr Gribhon for his kindness to the members. On tho way home a call was made to the James Powell Rest Home.
