TALKIES OF WEDDINGS
CURE FOR DIVORCE? REHEARING OWN PLEDGES. 1 NEW YORK, July 22. The institution of marriage in the United States, gravely imperilled by the high percentage of divorces, is destined to be saved by the timely intervention of talking pictures. This is the prediction broadcast by the Rev. Frank G. Smith, of Omaha, who yesterday united two couples after arranging for their vows to be recorded by sou ml films.
Ho hopes that the custom thus in r augurated will he universally adopted, and that married people who have quarrelled will be forced in tho future to witness a reproduction on the screen of their marriage ceremonies before being granted divorces. “ .1 made the vows especially strong,” be said, “so that the couples making them may hear them again if occasion requires, and thus be reminded of the solemnity of their covenants.” .Judge Rhoades, president of the Court of Domestic Relations, is an enthusiastic supporter of the idea. . Humorists are already busily exploiting it, and drawing pictures of faithless husbands being welcomed home by the sound of their own voices reciting the pledges of the marriage service.
