Persisting in the face of continued laughter and facetious interjections, Mr O’Brien (Westland) gave notice in the llouse to-day to ask the Prime Minister if, in consequence of the distorted or suppressed reports of tho majority of members’ speeches by certain newspapers, and the undue prominence given other members in tho interests of a particular party, he would consider the establishment of a State newspaper. Members interrupted to declare that that would still be worse. Mr O’Bricli went on to suggest that such a newspaper bo under the control of a Civil Service editor, charged with the duty of guaranteeing a correct report of the doings of Parliament and. full reports of members' speeches, irrespective of party. Such a newspaper, carrying Government advertisements, must, .he declared, bo a profitable investment. - A; Member: Nobody would read it. (Laughter.) ‘.
