MACANDREW BAY NOTES
[From Otjr Corkespo.vdext.]
The monthly meeting of the Macandrew Bay Girl Guides’ and Brownies’ Committee was held in the hall on Monday evening, when there was a full attendance of members. The report, as submitted by the officers of the Guides and Brownies, showed that the movement had made rapid strides in the Bay. Both troupes were now fully established and equipped, and the funds showed the committee to he in quite a satisfactory position. A special meeting and examination test will he held by the district officers on Monday next.
The Card Club season is fast drawing to a close, and next Tuesday will see the finish of the tournament. As there are quite a few with the same number of games, the concluding nights’ series should create much interest. The following Tuesday the members of the club will give an invitation evening, at which the various prizes won during the season will bo presented. The of the St; Aidan’s Anglican Church Guild and friends met at Mr Bewley’s Tea Rooms on Wednesday evening to say farewell to Mr and Mrs BHok, who are shortly leaving the district to take up residence in Edendale. Mrs Brickell, as chairwoman of the guild, spoke in eulogistic terms as to the esteem in which the guests of the evening were held, and on behalf _of the guild members presented Mrs Blick with a bouquet of flowers. The remainder of the evening was devoted to a musical programme, the following contributing items :—Quartets, Mesdames Brickell and Niven and Messrs Niven and Blick; solos—Mesdames Gibson, Percy, Brickell, and Mr Niven; recitation, Mr T. 6. Brickell; pianoforte solo, Rev. Curzon Siggers. Mrs W. Budd played the accompaniments. A four-roomed house in Dublin Bay was destroyed by fire. The owners of the property were in town when the outbreak occurred. Luckily there was no wind; otherwise six houses all closely situated would probably have been destroyed. The committee of the Sea Scouts and Cubs are working very assiduously towards obtaining uniforms and gear for the boys. Already, thanks to the efforts of Mr Brickell (president) and Mr Perrett (district Scoutmaster), much has been done, and it is gratifying to know that shortly the desired results will be obtained.
