R UGBY, August Lii. tßoceived August 14, at 11.30 a.m.) Meetings, which it is hoped will lead to a resumption of: negotiations between the parties in the cotton trade dispute, were held at Manchester today. They were the result of an interview between the Prime Minister and the employers at Edinburgh during the week-end, when Mr MacDonald, it is understood, urged the desirability of submitting the case to arbitration. At noon a committee or the cotton spinners and tine .Manufacturers’ Association met. Sir Horace Wilson (Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Labour) was present. The meeting was adjourned when it became known that a committee of the Federation of the Master Cotton Spinners Associations had been called together for this afternoon. It is expected that these two sections of the employers will meet later in consultation with a view to joint action. A part of the business at each meeting dealt with the question of arbitration, and reports were given of the interview with Mr MacDonald.
