RESURRECTION OF VERDUN
PRESIDENT'S VISIT PARIS, J uly 2-1. 'The resurrection of Verdun, the rebuilding in ton years of what was destroyed in ten months, was celebrated by imposing fetes, which were attended by the President of tho Republic, the Presidents of the Senate and the Chamber, M. Poincare, and other members of the Government and the Diplomatic Corps. The arrival of regimental flags and the delegations of ox-service men was .saluted by salvoes of artillery, while the bells of every steeple pealed. The procession -was a moving one. The colours of forty regiments, symbols of French bravery, were handed to the Mayor of Verdun, ’'’hilo they were being borno into the Hotel de Ville a. man with a white moustache, who had been visiting the ’ battlefields, found it difficult to conceal his emotion, He was Marshal Potain, the author of tho historic order. When ho arrived M. Doumcrgue, the President, was greeted by Marshal Petal n in the name of the French army and by tho local authorities. As he drove through the rebuilt town to the Hotel de Villo he had a tremendous reception. He was made a “citoyen”
of Verdun, and he attended a banquet.
