“A SOCIAL FURORE”
TURMOIL OVER TEA PARTY NEW YORK', July 15. Airs Hoover entertained at tea in the White House yesterday Mrs Oscar Do Priest, wife of a negro representative from Chicago. The news has created a furore amongst the social leaders in Washington ami consternation in the Southern States. _ Not since President Roosevelt dined with Air Booker T. Washington, the negro educator, has a similar incident occurred. Senator Caraway is sufficiently agitated to cause a newspaper account of the tea party to be read into the Congressional record. The tea party was a routine social affair, as Airs Hoover is entertaining all Congressional women in'groups, and Mrs De Priest came along in regular order.
