HOUSE Of REPRESENTATIVES jTeb United Press Association.) The House of representatives met at 2.30 p.m. , , Replying to Mr H. E. Holland (LulIcr), the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) said that as soon as it was available he would be pleased to make known the contents of the final report of the engineer on the subject of the further blockages in tho Mokihinui River. Mr Holland stated that, as a result of the blockages in this river following the earthquake, the town of Sodclonville had been inundated and there was some alarm in consequence of these later blockages. He thought the report of the engineer would do much to dispel the fears of the people. Mr Ransom informed Mr J. O’Brien (Westland) that he was arranging for an inspection of tho effects of the erosion in Hokitika Gorge, with a view to ascertaining whether there was any danger to the settlement of Koterangi. The following were granted leave of absence; —Mr (J. L. Carr (Timaru), four days (illness in the family) ; Mr T, Henare (Northern Maori), two days (illness); Mr J. A, Young (Hamilton), two days (urgent public business): Mr W. J. Poison (Stratford), one day (urgent public business). The following Bills were introduced and read a first time:—Bank of New Zealand Amendment Bill (Mr ‘ P’. Langstoxxe) ; Hawke’s Bay County. Hastings Borough, and Havelock Nox-th Town Board Empowering Bill (Mr H M. Campbell). Tho Budget debate was continued, the House adjourning at 10.18 p.m.
