NAPIER, August 12

A varied and large assortment ol goods alleged to have been stolen made an unusual spectacle in the courtroom, doth the accused, though having made admissions to the police, pleaded not guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court tor trial. Constable Alsop suited that wiicn the accused were lounl in the dug-out Rrycc made a statement. She said that on duly 11 the male accused came to whore she was employed as a domestic at Waioliiki, and said the po.ice were looking for him. She concealed him in a loft for two days, and at night lie slept in a room next to hers, which was detached from the house. Rryco thought her parents suspected something, so she loft, hut returned to her home on July 22. Later she went with Raverty to the dug-out, and was dressed in some of her brother’s clothes. She admitted breaking into the store with Raverty, and stealing clothing, chocolates, shoes, and groceries. Detective Farquharson said that Raverty frankly confessed to the charge of breaking and entering in company with Rrycc, and also other theft charges preierred. Raverty bad also admitted taking several blank cheques from Buckley’s cheque book when he (the accused) was employed at the station managed by Buckley, and said ho lilted them in and cashed them.
