Advice was received by private cablegram yesterday that Dr 11. L. Flett bad passed the examination for the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, London. At the meeting'of the Otago Dinghy Union Committee last night the chairman (Mr D. M. Stuart) referred to tho death of Mr Andrew Annit, who represented Otago in 1800, and who, like other members of Ids family, was prominent' in tho Kaikorai ■ Club. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried, members standing in silence as a matk of respect. Mr D. M. M'Dougall, M.P., and Mrs M'Dougall are spending a few days in town. At the meeting of the Otago Electrics Power Board this morning it was decided to place on record appreciation of the services of two ex-members of th© hoard, Messrs P. Briscoe and J. Guest. The dcatli has occurred, at “the age of eighty-six years, of Mr Robert Kaye, of Richmond Road, Ponsonby. He was horn at Glasgow, and arrived at Dunedin with In's parents in the ship Palmyra in 1818. Two years later he joined the Post and Telegraph Department in Dunedin, later serving in many parts of New Zealand, holding positions at Dunedin, Invercargill, Christchurch, New Plymouth, Auckland, Westport, Tiinaru, and Nelson, besides being mail agent in the San Francisco service for over four years. In 1902 he retired on pension, and lias since resided in Auckland Ft)' 1 many yours he was an active member of tho Masonic fraternity, and of several musical societies.Ho leaves a wife, a son, Mr R. L. Kaya (assistant-engineer in tho Public Works Department at Stratford), and a stepson, Air A. F. Bent (clerk of the court at Blenheim). —Auckland correspondent.

News of the death of Air Philip Arthur Keddell will be received with, sincere regret by his many friends and acquaintances all over New Zealand, for during the long period iu which he was iu charge of the Pensions Department at Christchurch Mr Keddell came, iu contact with a great number of people, and his happy and bright disposition endeared him to all. In his long and distinguished military career, too, he made many friends, serving right through both the South African War and the Great War. He was a. son of the late Major Jackson Keddell, magistrate and commissioner for Oamaru. The deceased upheld tho traditions of a fine military family. Ho left with one of the first contingents for South Africa, and in the heaviest campaigns ho received injuries necessitating his being invalided home to New Zealand. Ho re-enlisted, however, amisaw a further period of service in South Africa. At the close of the war heeutered the service of the New Zealand Government in the Pensions Department, where he remained until the call of his conntrv again took him on active military service. Ho left with one New Zealand contingent with tho rank of captain, and returned with the rank of major. After tho declaration of peace Mr. Keddell once more took up his duties as officer in charge of the Pensions _ Department at Christchurch, relinquishing the position through illhealth three years ago.—Christchurch correspondent. Word has been received that Prolessor W. F, Powell, of Philips University, Enid, Oaklahoma, lias been successful in securing the degree of doctor of philosophy at Yale University. Dr Powell, who is a son of Mr and Mi-s W. Powell, of Glen road, Caversham, has many friends in Dunedin'.
