ALTAR DF ZEUS BERLIN, May 21. The setting up of the great altar of Zeus from Perga mum in its original form in a gigantic hall specially constructed for it in the Berlin Museum iii time for the Archaeological Congress marks a milestone in the history ot German archaeological effort. Hitherto it lias been shown in separate sections. The public has not yet access' to the uncompleted building, which, it will he remembered, was one of Dr Bede’s most cherished desires to see finished befoie his dentil. The altar in future will rank with the head of Queen Nelcrtete as a treasured possession no tourist must miss. Is is said to date from the second century u.c., and its exceedingly fine decorations iu high relief represents iu the main struggles between the Greeks and the Gaulish invaders.
