HARRIER CLUBS

NORTHERN Northern ran from the Morniugtoti School. There was a good muster, under the ■whistle of Captain J .Dunn. Tim hares (B. Pierce and N. Henderson) laid an excellent trail, leading down to the Woollen Mills, thermo up through the hills, where the hounds struck plenty of gorse, down to the Southern Darn. A good run over grassy paddocks to the Uurnsidc station followed. The short cut was taken up to the top of the Cavcrsham Hill. _At the former place the pack divided into two —a fast one, under Captain Bunn, and the slow one, under Deputy-cap-tain F. Cawley, The run home along the Mornington road resulted in P. Stene, S. "Varcodt, and F. Cawley being the first three home'in the slow pack, and- T. King, V. Trochou, ami J . Dunn the first three in the fast pack. ST. HILDA St. Kilda ran from tlm St. Clair Baths, a good muster turning under the whistles of Captain A. holey and Deputy-captain J. Auld. The paper was entrusted to J. Boardnian and L. Grainger, who laid the frail up past Cargill’s Castle and on to Tuime Beach. Jlsrc it branched up the lull until the road was reached, this being followed to Forbury Corner. The runners were then split into fast and slow [jacks for the run home, a good pace being maintained until the baths were reached. For the fast pack, J. Auld and A. Foley were first home, while D. I'obcrtson and S. Asher were first for the slow pack. DUHE3IN Dunedin ran from 19 Chacomhc avenue under the whistle of Captain Baxter. The pack set off at a fair ( pace up the Pine Hill road over some J paddocks to the top of the, Leith Val- ■ ley road, then across country past the Bishop’s residence, and down past Urn | Taper Mills, through the Gardens, J home. I HANOVER BABTISTB An excellent start was made of the Hanover Baptist Club’s season, when fifteen members turned out for the opening run. The harriers left the Coronation Hall, Maori Hill, under the leadership of 11. Hayward. The course followed by the pack led down the Balmaccwen road, across tlie golf links, and round the resevvoiv. The pack then came to the Wakari road, which Jed them back to the golf links. The final sprint resulted in A. Kay being first, closelv followed by D. Thompson and L. Medlin. CIVIL SERVICE Civil Service hold a very successful opening run from the Anderson s Ba> School. The trail was laid by R. Mauderson and C- Tracey, who provided a good variety of cross-country work. From the school, the trail feel through paddocks to the foot of the hill, and then over some steep country to the face of the hill overlooking the harbour at Waverier. Fairly flat running was encountered from tins point across to the Highclifl roar!, which was fob, lowed to the monument, where the runners tool, the opportunity of a. short spell to recover from the fairly strenuous climb up the face of the lull. After descending the long valley to the Tomahawk Lagoon, the paper followed Ihe Talmna Park road to Lawyers Head, from which [joint it rounded the cemetery and continued along Tomahawk road the train terminus, where the inn home commenced. 1,. CAVERSHAH Cavcrsham Harriers ran from the George Street School, some forty-live limners panicipating. J'ho paper was left in the capable hands of J. VTapp and K. P. Brown, who were re-spon-ilile for an excellent trail, wbicn led along Duke and Malvern streets to the Paper Mills, and continued on skirting the. Ward, were responsible for an excellent trail, which led round behind the baths and then swung abruptly up a steep incline towards the second beach. Alter branching across country to the cairn, the pack met the Highclilf road near Glendining Home. Reaching the Irani lino the ! pack went along Spottiswoocl street into Thindonald street, thence on to Taliiiiiii road. An excellent run home resulted; R. Saunders J, L. APKeicb ■)_ MiaCTGJI The Aforningtou Harriers ran from the North-east Valley School. The paper was in the hands of C. Lucas and A. Robson, who laid a strenuous trail along the Alain road and np towards tljc .Junction. Some distance from the bottom, however, it turned to the left across some very rough country, passing just below the Brown lion.-o. and 'over Bciimim'- Creek. Alter skirting .Mount Cargill lor some distance the trail turned down the hill, recrossing Betlinnc's Creek, continuing on to the road again. PATRICK'S Nearly thirty members of the St Patrick's Harrier Club took part in the rim. The trail, laid by B. Banglieii and N. Berry, led up Rattray street from St, Joseph's Hall to Arthur I street, where It branched on to the drive. It was then followed through Wahari to i’almacewen (toll' Links and by a round-about route via Maori Mill I home to St. Joseph's Hall. The pack wr.s divided in two, one half lining in charge of Captain Bradley and the other of .Deputy-captain Geddcs. The other half, most of whom were firstseason runners, was given free minutes’ start and made great use of the opportunity.
