TAKING DOWN SOLICITORS

MAH SENT TO GAOL [Pelt United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 7. Robert Vernon (31) was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for obtaining from Mr Hall-Skelton, a solicitor, £5 by falsely representing that he was a land agent and had sold a farm for £4,750. The Chief Detective stated that Vernon made a habit of taking down solicitors by telling similar tales. Counsel said the accused had no money, and the temptation was too great for him. “The times are very hard,” he added. The Magistrate (Mr Levien): “Who for? The solicitors?” (Laughter.) “For everybody,” replied counsel. “Solicitors don’t fall as easily for £5,” interjected Mr Allan Moody, who was in court. “ Some might, but not all.”-
