In the Supreme Court to-day Mr Justice Frazer sentenced Frederick Thomas Kelly May, for brutal offences on a woman, aged sixty-five, at Rama rama, and on a girl of thirteen years. at Waiotira, to ton years’ imprisonment with hard labour, on each of two charges of rap 3, the sentences to bo concurrent. On charges of theft by menace, May was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, to be concurrent with the previous sentence. His Honour said the circumstances indicated gross violence when the victims were absolutely helpless and bevond the reach of any assistance. Rut for the possibility that the prisoner was mentally subnormal His Honour said it would have been bis duty to order him to ho flogged.
