PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY

TO-DAY'S SESSiDN |.Smun to the ‘ Shk.’j AUCKLAND, November 27._ Tho Presbyterian Assembly considered a variety of matters this .morning, largely financial. Dr Morringlon’s amminlmcnt in the mastership of Knox College was made to date from the end of this yeaiy Tho treasurer’s report, presented by the Ik>v. W. J. Comric, Wellington, was an optimistic one. It declared that there was no need for retrenchment or for withdrawal from any branch of church work. Tho Moderator (Professor Kewitson) presented Mr Comrie, who is retiring after twenty-three years’ service as the Assembly’s treasurer, with a cheque as token of esteem from tho whole church. The report of the church property trustees and a special report on trusts were adopted. When the Quarter of a Million Fund Committee reported that it had postponed its arrangements for raising funds, Dr Bigg recalled that he characterised tho scheme as absolutely preposterous. He advocated approaching wealthy Presbyterians to secure bequests. The, Assembly’s midday luncheon was attended by a number of the ncwlyclected local members of Parliament representing all parties.
