AMATEUR TESTS

Large entries have been received for the amateur theatrical tests to bo held at the Princess Theatre next Friday and Saturday, and New Zealand Theatrical Enterprises, Ltd., is now assured of placing before Dunedin theatre patrons an entertainment equal to that given in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. The programme will consist of ballad singing, humorous and dramatic monologues, specialty dancing for boys and girls, and comic singing for gentlemen and boys, for which liberal prizes will be given. Apart from the amateur element competing, quite an interesting variety of professional vaudeville acts has been secured, and a special feature of the programme will be a competition for the best rendition of that haunting Indian love song ‘ Ramona,’ which has quite captured music enthusiasts of Dunedin. These theatrical tests have far-reaching effects, as numerous aspirants for stage fame have secured engagements with various theatrical, picture, and vaudeville managements throughout the dominion. Intending competitors are reminded that the last opportunity for competing in these tests is extended till to-morrow night, at 6 o’clock. Entries will be received to-day from 10 a.m., and finally close to-morrow at the Princess Theatre.
