RATEPAYERS' INTERESTS
meeting of dunedih associaim
The monthly meeting of the .Dunedin Ratepayers’ Association was held last evening. The following were present Messrs P. L. Ritchie (chairman), T. Scott, R. Duncan. Vernon Smithy G. Gray, H. Begg, B. Sincock, Dr Ncwlands, and W. F. Forrester. FIRE BRIGADE AFFAIRS.
The Secretary (Mr C. H. Wing) stated that matters relating to the suggested fire alarm at the Stock Exehange, and also to the proposed now brigade telephone number were still in abeyance. The secretary of the hire Board had said that his board had interviewed the mayor, and tho question of a siren at the Exchange would be discussed further. With regard to tho telephone number, ho (Mr Wing) bad interviewed the district telegraph engineer, and ho had been told that there would be some difficulty with the black numbers. However, ho (the engineer) was arranging with the city engineer to see if some scheme could be worked out. After that he was going to report to tho association. It was suggested by Mr Duncan that if the new number plan were found impracticable, slips bearing the present number should bo issued to all subscribers. These could be pasted on to both private and slot machines. It was resolved that tho secretary should write to the Fire Board asking for it« co-operation in the matter. WARD SYSTEM Reporting on the result of tho deputation which had gone before the City Council with respect to the ward system, Mr Ritchie said that the Finance Committee to which it was referred considered that to bring about the system would be a slow job, and to arrange for it would probably take twelve months. Moreover, it was pointed out to him that they could only have five wards. No doubt this would be sufficient in the meantime. The matter would bo argued out, and it would be for the councillors to say whether or not the scheme would be projected. Personally, it seemed to him a lohg time for a small job like that, but in the meantime they would just have to await the decision. JUBILEE PARK.
On the motion of Mr Sincock, who referred to the untidy state of Jubilee Park, it was decided that a letter be sent to the City Council asking that something be done to clear it up.
