In the House of' Commons Sir Thomas luskip (Attorney-General) moved the appointment of two additional members of fho Judicial Comof Hie Privy Council, at a salary v' ‘HT and a oem-iou of £I,OOO, and an additional Judge of the Appeal (.min. ;ii a salary ol £6,000 and a pension of £3,750. Ho pointed out that Lord Haldane had shortened bis life through overwork on (he Judicial Committee. Sir 11. Slesser asked if Lord Birkenhead would claim from the Lord Chancellor tho pension of £5,000, seeing that ho did not propose to servo on the Judicial Committee. Sir Thomas Inskip replied that Lord Birkenhead had informed him that ho would shortly undertake new employment with substantial emoluments. He proposed to claim tho pension only for the transition period.
