Roddy had attended a owformanee by a famous illusionist, who had during one part of his -show put a woman in a cabinet closed the doors, locked them, and then, alter a few seconds’ absence, opened .them again. The woman had clisappeacd. End in her place was a parrot! Immediately after the performance Roddy asked tho “illusionist”: “Mon, could yo do that trick if ma wife was -put in your box.” Tho illusionist laughed: “So you want to get rid of your wife, do you?” “Well,” said Roddy, “it’s not that, yc ken, but I promised the bairn a parrot for his birthday.” Aunt (to nephew who has just made his farewells, prior to sailing on three years’ big game shooting trip) : “Well, good-bye, Richard, good-bye—and 1 do hope you have it fine!”
