A Wellington Association message states that Air L. B. Campbell, cngi-neer-in-chargo of the Public Works Department at Auckland, has been appointed inspecting engineer, with headquarters at Wellington. A resolution congratulating Dr Leonard Cockayne, of Wellington, on being awarded the Darwin medal by the Royal Society, was carried at a meeting of the Otago Institute last night. In moving the resolution Air H. D. Skinner said it was the first time such an honour had been granted to a scientist outside of Great Britain. Dr Holloway gave an outline of Dr Cockayne’s research work. Ou his leaving the service of the Otago Harbour Board to take up a position with a commercial firm, Air D. E. Inglis was the recipient of a presentation from the stuff. Mr Bardsley made the presentation, and his appreciative references were endorsed by members of the staff.
Alisa Emily Alary Nutscy, matron of the Hawera Hospital, has been appointed lady superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, in succession to Miss A. Taylor, who retires early next month. Miss Alargaret Brown, at present first assistant to the lady superintendent, retains Iter position, and Alias Alice V. AJ. Cussen, matron of Franklin Alemorial Hospital, is appointed second assistant.—Press Association.
The Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council last night passed a motion of condolence with Mrs Peake and family. Various speakers paid sterling tribute to the work the late Mr Peake bad done in the cause of cricket and other sport in New Zealand. Mr W. H. Winsor, tho present treasurer of tho council, was appointed secretary and Mr D. Wankiyn was appointed treasurer in Mr Wiusor’s place. Tributes to the late Mr Peake are contained in messages to the New Zealand Council from all over the dominion and the Australian Commonwealth. One was received from the New South Wales State eleven which played the Englishmen yesterday.—Christchurch Press Association,
