IMPORTANT ANNUAL SALE Tlio fifth annual sale of Messrs Thomson Wairongoa . Clydesdale sum horse's, held yesterday by Wright, Stephenson, and Co., attracted buyers from far and near, and there "as spirited competition. This Otago stud was established m 1905. The first importations _ from Scotland were noted prize-winneis there—Baron Winsome and the mares Baron’s Brilliant and White Rose. Four mares were subsequently added—namely, Agatha, Silver Cloud, Lau.v Alston, and Lady Buchlyvic. In fJiJHineraoa came from Australia, and Ena from Scotland. Afterwards the Thomsons imported- Chief, Pride m Trowan, Moireen, Choicest Queen, and Bonnie Queen. The present stud emanated from the stallions and mares mentioned. The stud has bred nineteen champions of both sexes, fifteen of them being got. by outside stallions. The Royal championship winner, Bnlliantshine, considered by many to be the finest Clydesdale stallion in the Southern Hemisphere, was purchased by Mr C. Hazlett. of North Taicri. On account of a false rumour to the effect that this horse had travelled in certain districts, and had broken down during the season, the anticipated- price was not realised. In refuting this rumour, it was stated that Brilliantshino had passed every veterinary examination since he was a yearling. Mr Hazlett s winning bid was 170 gs. Scotland’s Victor, also a champion, was purchased for 351 gs by Messrs Nicholson Bros., Hampden. Dandy Dick, a full brother to the champion horse at Christchurch last year, which beat the imported horse Archaic, is a rising two-year-old. He was bought by Mr Carmichael, of Waipahi, for oOgs , Newton, a yearling colt by Risque (imp.), was purchased for .Tigs by Mr Thomson, of Oamani. Risquettc, a yearling colt, was taken at 20gs by the same buyer.
_ Miss Marine, in sure foal to Bnlliantshine, was purchased for 53gs by Air H. Watson, Methven. Cherry Farm Primrose, one of tho cleanest and most level mares at the sale/ and in sure foal to Brilliantshino, was purchased for 85gs by Messrs Brown Bros., Waiauakarua. Cherry Primrose (4Sgs), Black Beauty (SOgs), Victorctto (47£gs), and Nellie Newton were purchased by Mr C. Hazlett, while Brilliant, tho only female alive from the renowned prize-winning horse Brilliant Again, was acquired by the same buyer for Sags. Victoreno was bought for 61gs by Mr A. Wilson, of Henley, and Katie Kain passed into tlio hands of Mr Hamilton, of Kelso, for 42|gs. The imported Silver Cloud, dam of Lady Buchlyvie, Silver Fern, Black Beauty, and other champions, and in sure foal to Scotland’s Victor, was acquired by Mr Watson, of Methven, for 34gs. . Ena the Third, by Royal Favourite s colt out of tlio champion unbeaten maro Baron’s Brilliant, was bought by Mr Thomson, of Oamani, for 30’gs. Katie Kathleen (30gs) and Fanny Fobric (Bogs) were purchased by Mr Blair, of Outram, while Molly Moireen, the daughter of the imported Royal Show winner Moireen, went to Mr Porter for 88gs. All the horses on each side are from imported dams and sires, and their pedigrees can ho traced _ back in the Stud Book of Great Britain for 113 years. It is considered by experts that tho fillies and marcs purchased yesterday will undoubtedly leave their mark on our Clydesdale racers if properly mated.
