In order to cope with the increased maintenance costs, the Auckland Hospital Board to-day decided to increase tho levy on local authorities for the coming year to 30d in the £ as against 25d for" the. past year. This means that the authorities will pay £114,530 this year, compared with £91,647 last year, an increase of £22,883. “Jf wc keep to the old levy, wo will end np tho year with an overdraft of £40.000,” said tho Chairman (Mr W. Wallace). “I. realise there will bo a great howl From the local bodies, but 1 am prepared for that. We have to make ends meet.” Apart from maintenance costs, the principle item of expenditure for the coming year is £40,000 for the infectious diseases block.
