COUNTERFEIT NOTES
THE GEELONG RAID ADDITIONAL ARRESTS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, May 2. (Received May 2, at 10.50 a.m.) Three additional arrests have been made following the seizure of 10,000 spurious £5 notes. The names of those arrested are: John Howarth, of Geelong, contractor; Ralph Miller, of Geelong, farmer; and Benjamin Thomas, of Geelong, tailor. Bail was allowed. [A previous message stated; The police effected the biggest and most sensational coup for years when they r: .ed a suspected house at Ocean Grove, near Geelong, and discovered a complete engraving plant and 10,000 counterfeit £5 notes. A man and a young woman—Stephen Karasickwick, a process engraver, and Sima Marchenko—were arrested. When the police broke into the house Karasickwick was working on a printing machine, with a loaded gun beside him, but he did not attempt to use it. The house is situated in a remote part of a thick scrub, and the police forced an entry, completely surprising the inmates. The raid is the outcome of police investigations regarding the circulation of forged £lO notes at recant Melbourne and Sydney race meetings.]
