BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

SHEEP SELLING WELL There was » keen sale for sheep at Burnside to-day, ewes selling easily 3s a head better than last week, while wethers improved fully 2s per head. Fat cattle were about tho same as previously. Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 252. Average to prime quality was shown, including a number of excellent heifers and heavy cows, and a lew yards of weighty bullocks. The opening demand was much on a par with last week. Prices Extra heavy bullocks, £lB 10s to £l9 10s; prime light, £l2 10s to £l6; best heifers, £9 10s to £lO 15s; medium, £7 12s 6d to £8 10s; best cows, £lO to £ll 10s; medium, £7 15s to £9. Fat Sheep.—There were 2,197 lat sheep. Again there was a big lot of ewes, mostly of good to prime quality. Heavy wethers were fair, while there was a moderate number of prime light wethers. The demand throughout the sale was good, if irregular. As tho sale progressed prices improved, and finished- strongly. Best ewes improved fully 3s a head, and wethers 2s a head on last week’s fates. Light prime wethers met with a keen demand at late values. Prices: Extra heavy wethers, 44s to 48s 9d; prime, 35s to 395; medium, 31s to 32s 9d; best ewes, 36s to 395; prime, 31s to 345; medium, 15s to 18s. Fat Lambs.—About (550 lambs were included in the yarding. Fair average quality was shown. There were some extra pens of heavy lambs, and a number ot unfinished. The demand was keen for prime lambs, which improved about 9d a head on last week’s best prices. Prices: —Heavy lambs, 35s to 36s 6d; prime, 31s to 345; medium, 27s to 28s 6d; unfinished, 23s to 255. Store Cattle.—Abut 270 in the yarding. For tho most part the yarding was made up of cows and heifers, with about a dozen medium steers. Boners were a shade dearer, while others were unchanged. There was a fair demand for medium steers. Two and a-half year old steers were selling at £8 7s 6d, and two-year-olds at £6 3s. Pigs.—lso fats and 66 stores. Pat sheep were sold a shade dearer than last week.
