“HIGHLY CREDITABLE”
RESULT OF ST. HILDA CARNIVAL CREDIT OF £1,139 “Such a result is highly creditable to those who worked so willingly to make the carnival a success,” said Mr C Conn, who presided at a meeting of the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Carnival Committee last night, in submitting tho balance-sheet of the carnival held in March last. The balancesheet showed a credit balance oi £1,139 12s 6d. Continuing, the Chairman said there had certainly been mistakes, such as were inevitable in any such enterprise, but there was no doubt that these could bo turned to good account when the next carnivij was bold. Of the amount in hand £I,OOO was on fixed deposit in the National Bank in the names of tho treasurer (Mr W. G. Griffin) and himself, the remaining £139 12s 6d being left in current account. In the course of a week or so it was probable that a meeting of tho St. Kilda Beach Improvement Society would bo held, aim as soon as the society became an incorporated body the full amount would bo handed over to its trustees. In conclusion, Mr Conn thanked all those who had assisted, mentioning specially the Dunedin City Council, the St. Kilda Borough Council, tho Domain Board, the secretary (Mr J. W. Dove), and the treasurer. A summary of the balance-sheet is as follows: — Receipts.—Sales of badges and receipts from side shows, £2,533 8s 3d; donations and collections, £37 2s; sundries, £3O 11s sd; total, £2,601 Is Bd. Expenditure.—Purchases, £909 13s sd; buildings, £lB Is Sd; wages, £3l 12s; commissions, £225 12s lOd; hiring fees (tents, loud speaker, etc.), £126 5s lid; general expenses, £l5O 10s; total, £1,401 15s sd, Tho balance-sheet was adopted. ILLUMINATED ADDRESS. In recognition of his help and willing services, a handsome illuminated address. subscribed to by tho committee members, was presented to Mr M. _A. Idour. In making the presentation the Chairman said that, especially in tho initial stages, Mr Idour Ifad been a tower of strength to the committee, and it had been thought only fitting to_ recognise his assistance in some tangible manner. Right from the start lie had given willingly of his time, money, and labour to make the carnival-a success. Mr Idour briefly replied, and those present ioined in singing “For lie’s a jolly good fellow.”
