GREEN ISLAND BAND

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Green Island Municipal Band teas hold on Monday, when the mayor (Mr W. T. Kaler) presided over a good attendance of bandsmen and supporters. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit balance of £243 0s Id, as compared with last year’s £2O 0s 6d. The bazaar held in October last was in a large measure responsible for that. Negotiations are in hand for the supply of a new set of uniforms, and an endeavor is to be made to purchase new instruments. The annual report showed a playing strength of twenty-five bandsmen. The standard of play had improved, a better class of music was played, and practice attendances were goqd. The band had played out on twenty-two different occasions. Programmes had been rendered in the borough, at Fairfield, and Brighton. Attention was drawn to the work of the Ladies’ Committee for the bazaar. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr T. K. Sidey. M.P.; president, the Mayor (Mr W. T. Kaler); vice-presidents—nil re-elected, with the addition of Messrs J. M'Lcan, T. Tomkins, H. Connor, W. Kirkland, H. Taylor, J. E. Atkins, P. Piper, D. Miller, D. Wilkinson, W. Gibb, W. F. Bennett, P. Rouse; band sergeant, Mr R. Tait; band corporal, Mr J. Turnbull; band secrctray, Mr 1). Miller; treasurer, Mr A. Burk; committee—Messrs R. Tait, W. Watt, J. Turnbull, J. Milligan, H. Ryan; Social Committee— Messrs J. M‘lnnes, L. Cardno. K. Smeliie, A. Cheync, A. Alonson; librarian, Mr J. Milligan; assistant librarian, Air K. Smeliie; auditor, Mr J. L. Miller; drum-major, Air 11. G. Taylor; accompanists, Air and Airs Burk. Honorary members elected were: Messrs D. Stewart, W. Jones, W. Murie, W. H. Walker. E. Ensor, A. Kenyon. f'rssrs W. T. Kaler, J. G. Lindsay, and ... Logic were appointed to go into the cost of material for the erection of a band rotunda. Instrumental items were given by Bandsmen K. Smeliie (trombone solo), A. Cheyne.(euphonium solo), A. Cheync and 11. Ryan (duet), quartet, Bandsmen Smith, MTnnes, Armstrong, and Alillcr.
