RUGBY LEAGUE

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of tho executive of the Otago Rugby Football League was held last night. The president (Mr T. M. Gillies) occupied the chair, and there wa.s a full attendance of delegates. An application by R. Harris for a transfer from tho Christian Brothers Club to the City Club was granted. Air Jacob, secretary of the City Club, wrote asking that a dressing shed should be erected at Chisholm Purl,-, and stating that this -matter required immediate attention.—Referred to tho Flag Committee. The secretary was instructed to notify the clubs that the. nominations of teams for the intercluh fixtures should be forwarded to the executive by next Monday.

The now insurance rules, which were received back from the registrar, were referred in the Insurance Committee for a report. The Finance Committee was instructed to report in a fortnight on the question of putting I lie league’s ground at South Dunedin into order for playing. .It was decided that junior players should practice on t lie Caledonian (•round from 2 o’clock till 3.30 on Saturday, and that the Christian Brothers, Pacific, and Kaikorai senior teams should have the use of the ground from 3.30. The City and Athletic senior teams will play on the Oval, commencing at 2.30 p.m. The following officers were appointed Grounds Committee—Messrs E. Watson and R. Maxwell; Flag Committee—Messrs G. Backer, TT. Jacob, and E. Watson; selectors—Messrs V\ Turnbull, J. Kennedy, and 11. Jacoby treasurer, Mr H. DivorsT A copy of the annual report of the New Zealand Rugby League was laid before the meeting. The council expressed regret that it was unable to show a better result from a financial point of view. As far as the game was concerned satisfactory progress continued to be made, and the outlook for the coming year was eminently encouraging. The English League had accepted an invitation to extend their Australian visit to Now Zealand, and a feast of high-class football was confidently looked forward to, as the visiting team was expected to prove capable of showing the League code at its very best.—Received.

The secretary of the New Zealand Longue wrote with reference to the visit of the English tenm. He stated that according to present arrangements the team would arrive in Auckland on July 31. and would remain in the dominion for one month. Ho wished to know if the Otago League was willing to make a guarantee towards expenses in the event of the team visiting Dunedin. —A sub-committee consisting of the president, the secretary, Mr Divers, and Mr Turnbull was sot up to go into the matter. The secretary of the Now Zealand League also wrMc that the annual meeting would he held on Thursday, 2Gth hist. He stated that the itinerary of the English learn included a tost match against Now Zealand, at Dunedin on August 11, and a match against Otago at Dunedin on August 15. It was intended to play a match between the North Island and the South Island at Auckland on July 28, and a match between possibles and probables at Auckland on July 31 to enable the select inn of the New Zealand team for the first test match on August 4 to be made. The terms submitted by the English League were that the visitors would take 60 ner cent, of the gross gate at all matches, and the New Zealand Council 40 per cent.—Tt was suggested that the match between the English team and Otago be olayed at Invercargill. The president, the secretary. Air Divers, and Air Turnbull were appointed a sub-committee to report on tlie question.
