PLAYER PIANO RECITAL

The. remarkable tone and expression of the Gourlay player piano in the hands of a musician was strikingly demonstrated at a recital in Begg's concert chamber last evening. An interesting and thoroughly enjoyable programme was presented to an appreciative audience. The rare fidelity of tone reproduction and the absence of_ mechanical effects won the admiration of all present, and indicated that this instrument enables all those who are really loud of music, but are unable to play by hand, to .secure all the enjoyments "of hand playing. The versatility of the player was illustrated in a pleasing selection of piano solos. The programme included the 1 I’iquo Dame ’ overture (Snppc), ‘ Hungarian Dances, 5 and 6’ (Brahms), and the ‘Volga Brilliant© ’ (Chopin). .Lighter pieces, such as ‘ Charmcn.se ' and ‘ Coronach,• were also played, and'in all these selections the player was heard to .the greatest advantage. The Gourlay was also usd to accompany violin solos by Mr W. Lc Gal and trombone solos by Mr A. K. Baymcnt. In each instance the accompaniments fitted in perfectly, never obtruding into the solo parts. A similar recital will he given next month, ami there is no doubt but that it will lie as popular as the delightful entertainment given last evening.
