mim AHD CHRISTCHURCH TRAMS ARBITRATION AWARD CRITICISED [Pkb United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. Strong criticism of tlio , Arbitration Court in respect to tlio award granted in the Christchurch Tramwaymen’s dispute was voiced by Mr W. Hayward at yesterday's meeting of the Tramway Board. Mr Hayward said the decision was still further proof that the court could see no further than the fact that two and two make four. “Dunedin, with its seventeen miles of trams, comparatively speaking all on the inner area, is, as might be expected, a good paying concern. The fact that Christchurch operates sixty-three miles of trams, winch extend far out into the suburbs and are being run at considerable loss, apparently has no bearing on the case. The court’s decision, so refreshing in its simplicity, is; ‘Dunedin has given a rise; Christchurch must do the same.’

“This occasions no surprise to those who have followed the findings of the present court; in fact, the surprise would have been had the decision been otherwise.”
