At a meeting to-night Sir Pennell Rod cl will bo proposed as the official Conservative candidate in the hy-elec-tion in the London borough of Marylchonc, necessitated by the elevation of Sir Douglas Hogg to the Lord Chancellorship. The election of Sir Kennell llodd, who is in his seventieth year, would mark the entry of a distinguished diplomat into political life. He has performed ambassadorial service in most of the Courts of Europe, and has been engaged in special missions in the East and in other parts of the world. From 1908 to 1919 he was the British Ambassador in Italy. At the last election, against the Labour candidate, Sir Douglas Hogg won the scat at Marylebone by a majority of over 15,000 votes.—Australian Press Association.
