CONCERT AT BENEVOLENT
A programme of excel lent merit Mas submitted to the iumalcs ot the Gamsham Benevolent, Institution on kßmj day evening. The concert opened with a half-hours community sing, conducted by the organiser (Miss Jimsie G Fraser), the favorite numbers beinir ‘Down in the Valley’ and ‘Abide With Me.’ Then followed a solo, ‘ Hail, Caledonia,’ by Mr Cbas. raisloy; a, recitation by Miss Maude Driver, a vocal solo by Miss Cora Buchan. A dog dance was given by Miss Essie Johnston, a vocal solo by Airs T. W. Eason, a xylophone duo by Alcssrs Donald and Stewart Alaclcnnan, character sketches by Mr Alt. Hudson, selected solos by Mr Dalmores Macdonald, tenor born solo by Mr Harold Jackson, vocal solos by Mr Jack Ixodgers, and concertina selections by Mi George Paterson, one of the oldest inmates of the institution. Aladam Newcomb Hall made a great impression by her singing of 1 Come Back to Erin,' as did Airs" Charles Samson in her singiucr of ‘ Dannv Boy.’ Another popular item was given by the Phillips troupe, Misses Nad a and Aloureen danced a unique character dance, and they also played and sang, and Marocn rendered a cornet solo, * Beneath ’.I hy W indow,’ and Alastcr Eddie Phillips contributed a violin selection. The remainder of the programme consisted of a double clog dance by Alisses Jill Fox and Essio Johnston, xylophone solo hy Air Ronald Maclennan, vocal solo by Air Chas. Paisley, bagpipe selections Hy Messrs Crichton and AHKcimie, vocal solo by Air Dan Campbell, and an Irish jig by Miss Essie Johnston. During the evening ' Alcssrs Paisley. Ronald and Stewart Maclennan, Madame Newcomb Hall, Airs Charles Samson, Alisses Cora Buchan, Maude Driver, Moreen and Nada Phillips, and Alastcr Eddie Phillips rendered items in the- hospital wards. Mr MThcrson (manager of the institution) thanked Aliss Fraser and her band of performers for the splendid evening’s entertainment. The accompanists were Alisses Alnricl Caddie and Jimsie Fraser, Airs A. C. Brown, and Air Dalmores 'Macdonald, and the bagpipe music was played by Piper Crichton.
