PRESBYTERIAN BIBLE GLASSES
One of the most successful dominion Easter camps organised by the Presbyterian Young Men’s Bible Class Union was held at Mount Stuart from April 5 to April 10. Favored by ideal weather conditions, the 280 young men under canvas (representatives of every district in New Zealand) spent a most enjoyable •and profitable time. The camp programme was varied, and provided full scope for the overflowing energies of youth. Although there was a certain amount of tent pulling and similar frivolity, combined with an occasional skirmish with the Methodist neighbor campers, the discipline was extremely good. The Rev. A. J. Dow. of Lawrence, was in charge. The chief speakers were the Revs. W. Dower Black, LL.B., of Christchurch, president. of the union; A. C. Whitelaw, 1.L.8., travelling secretary . and W. M. Ryburn. M.A., one of the union’s missionary representatives who is on furlough from India. All the addresses were inspiring, and were much enjoyed. The camp concert on Saturday night, which was attended by a large number of visitors, revealed a lot of talent among the boys, and it was one of the most happy functions of the camp. On account of the camp being a dominion one, the Sports Shield, which was competed for on Easter Saturday afternoon, was open to all classes, and last year’s winners, St. Stephen’s, Auckland. sent down a strong team, and carried off the honors, again defeating the Roslyn class by only a few points. The Otago District Committee of the young men’s Bible classes, with the aid of a sub-committee from Milton, was responsible for the camp arrangements.
