BIBLE STUDENT CAMP

GATHERING AT ST. LEONARDS Sunshine, a fine spirit of camaraderie, and an excellent programme combined to make the Easter camp of the South Island Young Women’s Baptist Bible Class students at St. Leonards an unqualified success. Students to the number of 154, representing practically every centre from Invercargill to Christchurch, were present, and the general arrangements went with a swing from beginning to end The camp was opened on Thursday evening, and broke up on Tuesday morning after four days of delightful weather save for a little rain on Good Friday. It was supervised ably by Mrs IV. J. Bardsley (“Camp Mother”), president of the Otago and Southland Young Women’s Bible Class Union, who was assisted by a strong and willing committee of workers.

The spot chosen for the gathering was found to bo suitable in every way, and of the 154 campers 94 were billeted in the St. Leonards Hall, while the remainder found comfortable accommodation in the schoolhouso. The cooking was carried out in the open, under tho sunervision of Mrs Anstico, and in the unanimous opinion of the girls the quality and arrangement of the meals could not have been bettered.

Swimming on the new beach was liberally indulged in. On Good Friday a special Easter service was held, and the visitors were welcomed by the Rev. E. Evans. Miss M. Takle (Christchurch) responded on behalf of the visitors. A successful sports gathering was held on the following; morning, and in the afternoon the visitors were taken round the harbor by members of the Otago Motor Boat Club. In the evening a concert ■was held, and opportunity was taken to present various prizes won at the sports meeting. The Caversham class held the Champion Cup for 1927, and again was the winner of the competition for aggregate points, tho Greendale class being the runners-up. The Oxford Terrace class won the special prize for the best concert item. The Caversham class admired the sporting spirit of the Greendale class so much that they presented this class with an enlarged photo of the campers. Continuously, at intervals, _ Bible study classes were held, and special services were held—one in the St. Leonards Church and the others at the camp. Monday was devoted to a trip into the city, and after visiting the Botanic Gardens and taking lunch in the Woodhaugh Gardens the party was treated to a sight-seeing tour of tho city on a special tram.
