TE TAUMATA CLUB

GARDEN PARTY

The beautiful gardens surrounding the residence of Mr and Mrs Janies Begg, Ross street, Roslyn, were a scene of activity on Saturday afternoon, when a garden fete was run to help the funds of the Te Tanmata Club. Owing to the light rain showers there were not us many visitors present as were expected, hut under the conditions tho undertaking was a marked success The Mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) was present, and was introduced to the gathering by Mrs C M. Begg. He expressed his regret that the club had not been favored with better weather on such an occasion. He referred to the excellent work being done for the girls, and hoped that the Huh would continue to function successfully. His Worship then made a purchase at a near-by stall and declared the sale .officially opened. Other visitors present were Mrs Taverner, Mrs Sutherland-Ross, Mrs Inkster, and Mrs Howard Jackson. 'There was a large variety of stalls and competitions, including a treasure hunt which was won by Mrs 0. 0, M'Kcllar, Roslyn. A feature of the afternoon’s entertainment was the delightful music by tho Band of the Ist Battalion, Otago Regiment. Another attraction was the dancing arranged by Miss Dorothy Dean ; London (Greek School of Dancing). The following is a list of the stall holders;-—Produce stall, Mrs C. M. Begg and Miss Inkster; book stall, Mrs Chapman; sweets stall, Miss Tudor; soft drinks stall, Misses. Daphne Adams and Isabel Reid; bran tub, Mrs Begg and Miss Rosemary Ross; tea tent, Mrs Elder and Misses Hislop and B. Stevenson; treasure hunt, Miss Smith. Other helpers included Mrs Bulte, Misses Batt, Wells, Tabes, and Carter. Tho secretarial arrangements were in the capable hands of Miss Beardsley, while Miss Athol Jackson made an efficient treasurer.
