TO-DAY’S CASH PRICES

The guide gives the ruling prices in city shops for goods passed over the counter.

Groceries: Sugar is now selling at 3jd lb, or at 17s 6d for a 701 b bag; jam sugar is priced at 18s 6d a 701 b bag; butter is Is 6d and Is 8d lb; eggs are Is 8d and Is 9d dozen; and flour is up to 10s 9d for 501 b bag, or 5s 8d for 251 b,

Meat prices remain unchanged. Mutton sells at from 2d to 7£d; beef, from 3d to 11 d; lamb, from 7d to lid.

Fish is plentiful this week. The prices are:—Groper, 8d lb; kingfish, 8d lb; ling, 31b for 1s; soles, from 3s dozen; flounders, from 4s dozen; smoked blue cod, Is 3d lb; smoked ling, 6d lb.

Vegetable prices are:—Hothouse tomatoes, Is 4d lb; cooking tomatoes, 8d and Is lb; Peninsula potatoes, 51b for Is; cabbages, 4d and 6d each; cauliflowers, 6d to Is each; lettuce, 3d and 4d; peas, 4d lb; cucumbers, 9d to Is 6d; French beans, 9d lb; fresh rhubarb, 3d lb.

Fruit is selling at:—Bananas, 10 for 1s; new season’s apples, fid ib; Bon Cretion pears, 6d lb ; Californian lemons, 3d each; Valencia oranges, 3 and 4 for 1s; Jaffa oranges, 3 for 1s; hothouse grapes, 3s 6d lb; dessert plums, 6d lb; cherry plums, 6d Ib; cooking plums, 4d Ib; grape fruit, 6d each; dessert peaches, 6d, Rd, and lOd Ib; cooking peaches, 4d Ib; dessert apricots, 6d and 10d Ib; cooking apricots, 4d Ib.
