'The first three members of the Australian Davis Cup team have been scleclcd—Patterson, Captain Crawford, and Hopman. MANAWATU TOURNEY. At tho Manawatu tourpey, in the men’s singles championships yesterday afternoon, C. E. Malfroy (Wellington) beat A. C. Steadman (Auckland), 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. In the semi-finals in the morning Stedman defeated E. L. Bartleet, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, and Malfroy, easily defeated Barkmau (Wanganui), 6-1, 6-2. In the ladies’ singles semi-final Miss D. Knight (Auckland) beat Miss Myers (Wanganui), 8-6, 4-6, 7-5. Other semi-finals between Miss D. Nicholls (Wellington) and Miss Caloa (Wanganui) will he played to-morrow. In the men’s doubles championships Malfroy and Lampe -defeated Bartleet and Griffiths, 6-2, 9-3. In the final of the ladies’ handicap singles Miss Powdrell. Wanganui (10) beat Mrs Caldwell, Feilding (10), 50-35.
