THE SHARE MARKET
DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Generally speaking, the local market has had a good healthy tone during the week just ended. This is no doubt due to money being a little freer and to the maturing of the 1927 Government loans, which released a fair sum on November 15. . There were two sales of Upper Nevis shares this morning at 25s 3d. Bank shares in tho main are on the tip grade, and an improved tone has been noticed in Bank of New South Wales, Bank of New Zcalands, and National Banks. Shipping shares have also firmed, particularly Hnddart, Parkers, but the coals section has been quiet. Westporfcs are now quoted ex dividend, but have weakened. A new issue now on the list is that of the Kaitangata Coal Company, a seller for which quoted 6d discount this morning. Dalgetys, formerly quoted under two categories, have now merged into one, the prices this morning being £l2 17s 6d (buyers) and £l3 10s (sellers); last week a seller quoted £l3 17s Gd. All preference shares in the miscellaneous section have buyers, noticeably Brown, Ewings and D.I.C. shares; sellers, however, are not responding. Bruce Woollens had a buyer this morning at 10s, with no apparent seller—the same conditions as last Saturday.
Dominion Rubbers have firmed appreciably, due, no doubt, to tho improved prices being secured for this commodity at Home. The final quotations to-day were 41s (Id buyers and 44s sellers. Buyers of Milbuni Lime and Cements have increased their price from the 32s 3d of last week to -32 s 6d, and Wilson’s Comeuls are now quoted ex dividend, a buyer offering 35s 3d, with no. apparent seller. Very little interest has been shown in tho breweries section. Among the mining shares buyers of Kawaraus have gone down to 5d since last Saturday ; no seller cam© on the market this morning. Electrolytic Zincs and Mount Lyells are firm. Perhaps the chief interest in this section centres around Upper Ncviscs; the company will shortly commence operations, and the shares have firmed considerably during the week, and have closed with sales at 25s 3d. This morning’s quotes were 25s 4d and 25s 6d. Buyers of the Government Loans tax free issue have improved their buying quotations.
