JOSEPH HISLOP

FAMOUS TENOR The ordinary box plans opened today, and the preferential plans, which have been open a day or so, show that the interest in the coming of Joseph Hislop, the famous tenor, to Dunedin next Tuesday is most marked. Since lus arrival in New Zealand Joseph Hislop, who was born in Edinburgh, has been feted and acclaimed. The audiences at Auckland and Wellington wore large and enthusiastic, and this noted artist won all hearts by lus charming personality, as well as the wonderful beauty and range of his melodious voice. New Zealanders are hospitable people, and when they show a preference for visitors who have distinguished themselves in the world ol music, of letters, or of art, they display an enthusiasm that is sometimes embarrassing. In the ease of Joseph Hislop, they have extended to him the glad hand of welcome, and they bid lair to make his stay in the dominion one of tho happiest events in the life of a great singer and a splendid man. From Auckland to the Bluff there are people ready, nay anxious, to do him honor, and the sturdy Scotsmen of this fair land, who played such an important part in its settlement and wonderful progress, are leaving no stono unturned to do full honor to their*illustrious countryman.

Accompanying Air Hislop is a pianist of European reputation, in'tho person of Alberto Sciarretti, who has already, by his wonderful pianoforte solos, made a name for himself in the dominion. He will be heard in several solos by Italian composers. Mr W. Paget Gale will be heard on the organ in obbligatos. /

The Dunedin Joseph Hislop season should be highly successful. Already movements are on the way by leading citizens and heads of the music profession to tender tho singer a reception on Wednesday afternoon, November 29, in the Savoy Lounge, and the local Scottish Society also will honor the illustrious visitor in true Scots fashion.
