MORAY PLAGE SCHOOL CONCERT
A long and attractive programme of musical and elocutionary items, arranged by Mr Ted Hunter, was given in the Princess Theatre last evening in aid of the Moray Place School funds. 'The large audience were treated to a good variety of items, which were of a particularly high standard. Some stirring selections by the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band opened the programme. The best performance was the one by tbo Phillips Trio. These charming young persons showed that they possess more than the usual amount of versatility. The comic song, 1 Ethel,’ by little Eddie completely “broke” the house. His sister Moreen played two cornet solos, ‘ Because ’ and* ‘ Until,’ exceedingly well, while she also partnered her sister Nada in a piano duct. On each occasion they were Joudly applauded. Another item of merit was the song and dance number; ‘ Ain’t She Sweet,’ by the Hamer Sisters (Geraldine and Joyce), while a Highland dance and clog dance by Miss Toma Budge, and operatic ■ dance and Russian dances by Miss Etta Lang were also loudly applauded. A steel guitar solo, 1 Medley,’ by Mr N. D. Scurr, was also well received, and ho replied to his encore with a ukulele solo. The. Musical Quartet rendered some pleasing numbers. beginning with the ‘ overture, ' Sailor’s Sweetheart,’ and following with a violin solo by Mrs Ted Hunter, a xylophone’ solo by Mr A. Fraser, and a trumpet solo by Mr Ted Hunter. The quartet concluded with the piece, ‘Jacandra,’ (Wycherley), which was well received. The pianist of the quartet, Miss Scholield, also played several accompaniments. A number of good singers contributed songs, which included ‘ Avo Maria ’ and ‘ Killarncy ’by Mrs John Hamer, with a violin obbligato by Miss Nancy ■ Hamer; ‘ Kashmiri,’ by Mr N. Nisbet, with piano accompaniment bv Miss Pearce; ‘Caring for a Rose,’ by Mr A. Snell; ‘Come,to the Fair,’ by Mr T. Bauchop; ‘Sing, Joyous Bird,’ by Miss Tui Salt; ‘Love, You Have Made Me a Garden,’ by Mr Dan Fogarty; and a humorous song by Mr Ted Hunter. Other interesting items were given by Mr Do Spong and the ventriloquist, Mr Jack Gilchrist, and his pal “Jerry.” Selections were given bv the Picadilly Orchestra, the Moray Place School Bugle Band, and the Flute Band. -. . ■
