SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY

A BOROUGH MISTAKE [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, November 24. A discussion recently occurred in Parliament over the difficulty which the small borough of Eketahuna experienced through adopting the Saturday half-holiday. It found its trade from country diverted to a rival borough which had the Wednesday half-holiday, and it lias no power under the main Act to take a poll with tho hope of making a change. A new clause to the Local Bodies’ Empowering Bill aims at solving the' problem. Eketahuna may take another poll if not less than twofifths of the electors present petitions to that end and give security for the costs of the poll.
