DAMAGED MEAT LOADED AT WANGANUI AND TIMARU 8,(WO CAUCASUS OF MUTTON CONDEMNED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 23. (Deceived November 24, at 12.5 p.ra.) The Port'Caroline's damaged meat was loaded at Wanganui and Tinaru. The survey of the butter and cheese is not yet completed, but it is known that 14,00 boxes of butter and 800 crates of cheese are seriously water damaged. Some of tiio butter is tainted with a stale meat flavor, and it will bo necessary to scrape off the’ outside before it is saleable. All will have to bo submitted to the sanitary authorities before sale is permitted. Samples sent to the Cambridge Research Station will determine the fitness of selling; 80 per cent, of the damaged butter is from Auckland; Eight thousand carcases of mutton have boon condemned. The damage was apparently duo to a small meat port inside the ship starting a leak during the heavy weather rounding Cape Horn.
