.rcli, has accepted a position as resident master at tho Wanganui Collegiate School. Ho will take up his duties early in February. Mr John Bishop, of London, has been appointed conductor of tho Royal Wellington Choral Society for 1928. Mr Bishop was horn in South Australia, ami has studied under noted musical teachers in Europe and in London. Ho is at present conductor of tho Derby’ Orchestral Society. Our Christchurch correspondent advises that the death occurred yesterday at his residence at Kaikoura of Colonel Percy Morland Acton-Adams, D. 5.0., V.D. Born at Nelson in 1878, ho was educated at Christ’s College. In 190.1 he married tho youngest daughter of the late Mrs Francis Neave. of “ Okeover,” Canterbury. The late Colonel Acton-Adams was one of the best known .sheep fanners in Canterbury, and at different times occupied “ Island Farm ’ and “Clydcvale” stations. he purchased “ Clarence Reserve,” Kaikoura, and resided there for many years up to tho time of his death. Colonel Acton-Adams was at one time a member of tho North Canterbury Hospital Board, and also held office_ on the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Union. At an early ago he took an active interest in the defence forces of New Zealand, ioining the C.Y.C. Regiment in 1900. He received his commission in that regiment a few years later. He served continuously in the C.Y.C. Regimont, and was placed in command of tho C.Y.C. squadron of tho Expeditionary Force in August. 1914, with tho rank of major. The subsequent success with which he led the C.Y.C. on active service on Gallipoli Peninsula and in Egvpt and Palestine gained him promotion to the position of second in command of the Canterbury Mounted Regiment, and on several occasions he commanded that regiment. He served with distinction throughout the whole duration of the war, and wiis awarded the Distinguished Service Order and the Order of tho Nile, being mentioned in despatches for conspicuous bravery. On liis return from active service ho took over the command of the C.Y.C. Regiment, and in 1925 was promoted to command-, of the 3rd New Zealand Mounted Rifle Brigade, with the rank of colonel, which position he retained until his death. Colonel Acton-Adams is survived by bis wife, five sons, and six daughters. Mr and Mrs W. H. Rose, of Christchurch, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon. They have recently returned from a visit to Europe, Canada, and tho United Stales. •At a social hold last evening in the Morninglon Methodist Hall by the Ladies’ Guild, and attended by members of the church, presentations wore made to Mrs and Air J. IC. Scott, who arc presently removing to Now South Wales. Several speakers testified to the-useful work done by the family and to the esteem in which they arc hold. News has been received of the death in Victoria of the Rev. 0. S. Ross, once a well-known minister of the Presbyterian'Church of Otago. Mr Ross was inducted as minister of Alexandra and Clyde in ISGB. and could claim to be tho first settled Presbyterian minister in Central Otago. He afterwards occupied charges in Riverton and Anderson’s Bay, leaving New Zealand for Victoria 'in 1884. Ho kept in'"touch with New Zealand friends to the last, and ’was the author of several books dealing with tho early days in Otago. His brother, Air G. At. Ross, was for some years hank manager in Queenstown, and now lives in retirement in Australia.
