AUCKLAND' ROSED AS A DOCTOR. In the Supreme Court Harold Avery Clayton, who had preyed on the public, posing ns “Doctor Clayton,” was sentenced to twelve months, with hard labor, to be- followed by two years reformative detention. Accused bad obtained credit by fraud and false pretences at Hamilton, and had served sentences previously.—Press Association.

For theft of tin ingots from the warehouse of John Burns and Go. sax men were sentenced as under;—Kenneth Edward James M'Quoid and Frank Leonard O’Donnell were charged with breaking and entering and theft. The former was sentenced to 12 months, with hard labor, following the expiry of the term he is now serving, and O’Donnell’ to 18 months, with hard labor. Samuel Howard, for receiving tho stolen goods, received 12 months: Joseph John James Kyle six months, Francis Henry llao two years’ reformative detention concurrent'with the sentence he is now serving, and Harry Packer one month’s hard labor. GISBORNE The Supreme Court opened bcforc_Mr Justice MacGregor with a. very light calendar, comprising two charges against Maoris. True bills were found in charges of cattle stealing against John Marshall Reedy, and of carnal knowledge against Eripi Tebau.—Press Association.
