“THE REST” SCORES 267 KINGSTON AND FOLEY IN FORM. [Pm United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 33. The match New Zealand v. the Rest was commenced yesterday on a slow wicket. Bowloy and Newman opened lor the Rest against M'Girr and Beruau. Both batsmen opened well, and at 21 Blunt relieved Bornau, who had bowled two overs for 14 runs, and Allcott relieved M'Girr. Page relieved Blunt at 38, and was bowling round the wicket. Ho began with a maiden over, and kept Bowley quiet. Newman skied one just clear of short leg. Bowley had three 4’s in his total of 30, which he brought up with a 2. Fifty went up after 45 minutes’ play, Newman’s total being j 19. Rons came, singly and in twos, and Merritt relieved Allcott. An uppish shot from Newman went close to Henderson at short leg. Allcott replaced Merritt, who crossed over and relieved Page. Merritt nearly bowled Newman with his sixth ball. Page went ‘on at the other end, and Newman skied one to long leg, where Mills brought off a brilliant catch. 721 —35. Oliver was next bowled with a straight one from Page. 73—2—0. Gillespie filled the vacancy. Gallichan filled the vacancy, and Blunt relieved Lowry. Henderson, after bowling two overs, gave way to Merritt, who soon had Gallichan stumped. Talbot came in to see Foley bring 150 np with a 3, and one inn later Talbot flicked one from Merritt, and was caught by James. 161—7—8. 1,. C. Eastman was next in. At 168 Allcott went on in place of Blunt, and hesitation nearly had Foley run out m going for a single. With 170 up Eastman was well caught at short slip hy Page off Allcott. 170 —8-^-4. Kingston was next in, the score mounting slowly. Page came on at 198, and 200 came np in even time. Both Kingston and Foley were batting iii excellent form. With century up and a new ball, M'Girr and Bernau took up the bowling. Merritt came on at 230, but at 4.30 the scoie was 238 (Foley 47 and Kingston 40). After afternoon tea Lowry and Blunt went on, and at 243 the first byes were debited against. James. Foley ran to Ids 50. ami at 247 Kingston was clean bowled by Lowry, having helped to put on 77 for the ninth wicket. 247—9—43. Rend was the last mnu. The light became dull and the scoring slow. The innings closed at 5.22 for 267, Road being caught at short leg by Blunt off Lowry. Foley carried his bat for 66. At 5.35 Dempster and Mills commenced batting for New Zealand to Newman and Read.
