YESTERDAY'S PARLIAMENT

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL Tho 'Mortgagees’ Indemnity (Workers’ Charges) Amendment Bill and the Property Law Amendment Bill were read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Dunedin Cily Corporation Empowering Amendment Bill and the Wellington City and Suburban Highways Construction and Hutt Hoad Amendment Bill were passed. The Council adjourned at 2.45 p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Replying to Mr P. Eraser (Wellington Central), the Minister of External Affairs (Mr W. Noswortby) said it had been the practice of the department from the commencement of mandatory government to forward direct to each individual member of the Permanent Mandates Commission a copy of every New Zealand statute and Order in ■Council relating to the mandated territory, and a copy of every Samoan ordinance. In addition, three copies of each of these documents bad been sent to tho Secretary-General of the League of Nations for record at headquarters at Geneva. The difficulty in complying with the recent request of the Secre-tary-General for bound copies of these documents was that many of tho earlier Acts and Orders in Council and ordinances were now out of print, and were unobtainable; and tho reprinting of these statutes and ofiber Orders in Council and ordinances merely for the purpose of supplying bound volumes would involve very heavy expenditure. These documents', of course, were sent in addition to a full supply of copies of all annual reports relating to mandated territory. The “ AVashing-up ” Bill was reported from the Lands Committee without amendment. The Howard Estate Amendment Bdl was also introduced. Mr 0. J. Hawken (Minister of Ariculture) said the Bill sot up a committee of local bodies in Hawke’s Bay to adviso the Public Trustee what is to bo done with money derived from the estate. The Bill was read a first time. The House rose at 2 a.m.
