81-CENTENARY OF GENERAL WOLFE
At a special bi-cctiteuary service held in St. Alfegc’s Church, Greenwich, a laurel wrcatli was laid above the tomb of General Wolfe. The general, who was born in 1727, was a regular worshipper at the church. He was killed at the Battle of Quebec on September 13. 1759. Members of the Greenwich branch of the Royal Marines Ul.l Comrades’ Association, in which regiment Wolfe received his first commission at the ago of It, were present. They were in charge of Major Seitli, who laid the wreath on the tomb. Among the congregation was Mr Wolfe Aylward, a distant relative of the general. In his sermon the Bov. F. .1. lackley, vicar of Greenwich, recalled that General Wolfo received Holy Communion in the church on his last Sunday at home before leaving for Quebec, the chalice used on that occasion being still in use.
