FALL OF 90FT INDICATED AH AUCKLAND MYSTERY (Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 8. Tho body of an elderly man was found in the foliage in a gully beneath Grafton Bridge this morning. AVhile exercising his dogs in the gully at about 11 o’clock, a man had his attention attracted to a black telt hat by one of the dogs racing a little distance off the track to the object. Investigation revealed the body, wdiich was in a decomposed state. The neck was broken, and it is evident that tho body had dropped from the bridge; but whether the 90ft fall was accidental, or whether the man intended to commit suicide is unknown. Difficulty is being experienced in identifying the man. Found in the clothing was a Commonwealth Bank book- issued at Melbourne. It bore the name of “ Thomas Williams,” and showed a credit of 12s Hd. A note hook in the wallet contained several addresses, including that of “ A. Williams. Box 34, or telephone 88d. Matamnta’’; “Tom Monaghan, Grafton road, or care the Thistle Hotel”; “A.'S. Campbell, care Albert Hotel ”; and some Australian names besides. • There w r as a war pension certificate, No. M 7718, and a small war badge in the lapel of his coat. Police officers made fruitless inquiries of Mr Thomas Monaghan, barman in the Edinburgh Hotel, who said lie did not know the man. Records at the Pensions Department showed tlic_ 1924 address- of T. Williams to he No. 4 Camp, care Ellis and Bnrnand, Ongarne. Most of the pensions had been received at AATiangarei, the last two in .September and October, however, having been paid out in Auckland.
