EXECUTIVE MEETING
The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening, the president (Mr A. C. Laing) being in the diair. Two new members and one honorary member were elected, and one outward and one transfer were approved, live resignations were accepted, and two deaths recorded.
The Unemployment Committee’s report stated that the committee had nearly exhausted its resources for giving aid to the men out of employment. It was recommended that a f urther and final grant of £l9O be made to the City Council for tho furtherance of the work now in progress at Logan Park, and that the sum of £25 be granted the St. Kilda Council, these amounts to be subsidised £ for £ by the bodies concerned. The report was adopted. Tho committee set up to go into the matter of new badges recommended that headquarters be asked if the now badges would bo supplied with the name of the maker stamped on tho back, and, if so, that action bo taken .to prevent that Being done, as difficulty might arise in the event of a soldier losing his badge. It was also recommended that in the event of a member desiring to retain his old badge and be issued with a smaller one also that such be granted at a cost of, say, 2s Gd; and that headquarters bo asked whether the new badge would bo reregistered or whether the original registration of the badge under tho AVar Decorations Act would cover the new design, irrespective of the size of the badge. The report was adopted. AVith regard to artificial limbs, the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. J. Rolleston) wrote informing that, as already notified to the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, the Government had approved of a practical test being applied to the standard limbs proposed by the department and of other makes of limbs being tried out by New Zealand amputees before a final determination was arrived at in regard to the supply of artificial limbs. As the headquarters of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association was regarded as tho mouthpiece of soldiers generally, it was preferred that all correspondence relating to any resolution adopted at the annual conference of the association and still before the Government should come from the general secretary.—lt was decided to supply the local members of Parliament with a precis of what had transpired, and that one of them should be asked to bring the matter before the House. It was also decided to reply to the letter showing just how the position stood. Tho Secretary reported that 26 cases came before the sitting of the Appeal Board, and gave full details of each,— The members expressed appreciation at the work done by the secretary. A gift of photographs and sketches was received from Mrs Boxer with thanks. It was decided to express appreciation of donations from Mrs P.. 11. Hill, Mrs Thropp, and Mr G. P. Cuttriss. It was also decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr Hill in his illness. An invitation from the Rev. V. G. Bryan King to attend the service in St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday next was accepted. After discussion it was decided to write to headquarters of the association pointing out the delay which occurred in the transfer of properties subject to loans under the D.S.S. Act, with the object of expediting a reply from tho Minister in regard to such transactions, as experience had proved that undue delay had often occurred ns well as inconvenience to both tho seller and the purchaser,
