The Otago Provincial Council meeting of the Independent Order of I’cchabifes was held last evening, the Prov. C. Bro. L. V. Gain presiding. Bro. A. T. M’lndoe (as judge in conjunction with Bros. 11. Johnston and A. E. Harman) reported on the success of the inter-tent efficiency competition, and announced the results as' follow; Juveniles: Rising Star Tent 46 points, Hope of the Valley 44}, Primrose Tent 43. Adults: Star of the South 40-}, Sobriety 37}, Hope of Dunedin 34}. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded ’the judges. It was decided to hold the annual juvenile competitions in singing and elocution on Saturday next. A largo number of entries have been received, and a successful function is assured. Miss A. Campbell and Mr J. Davidson have again offered their services as judges. The secretary reported that in response to a request made by the council to the Port Chalmers Tent to elect their representatives to tho council the tent replied that it did not intend to appoint representatives and did ,not wish to be represented by proxy. The outcome is that Otago will have no more than three delegates at the forthcoming District Conference. The following nominations for district office wore received; —D.C.B., Bro. Alf. Martin: D.D.R., Bro. C. IT. Bascand; D. J.T., Bro. F. R. Clark; D. Guard., Bro. G. Skipworth. The following remit was put forward (rule 42; representatives to District Council meeting):—“That tho following words be deleted: ‘No tent shall have more than one representative.’ ” Tho programme for the District Conference was arranged as follows:—March 20, free and easy social for the benefit of arriving delegates having no other _ engagements, - March 21, official civic welcome, 10 a.m., conference to open at 10.30, combined juvenile and adult rally and Provincial Council welcome in Star of the South Tent room, King Edward street, at 7.30 p.m.; March 22, session continued.
